Restoration

Monuments restored with glass that new constructions envy

BENGglas is the solution for monumental buildings that want to be ready for the future without changing their appearance. Where double and triple glazing is often too thick or too heavy, BENGglas is so thin that it simply fits in the existing frames.

The result? Up to three times better insulation than double glazing, without having to sacrifice anything from the building. You save significantly on energy, it stays warmer (or cooler) inside for longer, and noise from outside is noticeably reduced.

Does your building still have that characteristic drawn glass with slight waviness? Then choose BENGglas Monu or BENGglas Monu Restover!

Perfect for:

  • National monuments
  • Historic city centers
  • Repurposing of churches, farms, and mansions

Heritage in the energy transition: character remains, energy loss disappears

Monuments and historical heritage are inextricably linked to our culture and history. But these buildings are often the biggest energy guzzlers. Traditional single glazing allows cold and heat to pass through effortlessly, resulting in high energy costs and low comfort levels. Sustainability is therefore urgently needed — but without compromising the character of the building.

Unfortunately, double or triple glazing is often too thick or too heavy. And because the frame usually cannot be modified to maintain the original appearance, standard insulating glass is simply not an option.

BENGglas offers the solution.
With a thickness of only 8.3 mm, BENGglas vacuum glass is extremely thin, lightweight, and fits in almost any historical frame. And with an insulation value (U) starting at 0.35, it offers twice the insulation of triple glazing and even three times better than double glazing.

This provides a much-needed solution for protected heritage, characterful buildings, and buildings where restoration must be done with care.
Without compromising the appearance, but with impressive performance: superior insulation, more comfortable living, and an expected lifespan of no less than 50 years.

Monument glass with BENG glass Monu

Are you looking for old historical or drawn glass?

BENGglas Monu is combined with an extra monumental counter pane.
This counter pane – also known as monument glass or historical glass – is recognized by its characteristic, slightly wavy surface. This traditional glass drawing technique was widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries and is common in monumental buildings and protected heritage. During the renovation or restoration of such buildings, preserving this authentic feature is often a requirement of monument care.

By combining BENGglas with an extra monumental counter pane of 4 mm thickness, it is now possible to maximize the sustainability of these protected buildings, with an impressive insulation value (U) of up to 0.50! For comparison: traditional (double) monument glass achieves, depending on the composition, a U-value between 1.5 and 5.6. With BENGglas, you achieve much better sustainability.

The lifespan is also an important advantage: BENGglas has an expected lifespan of up to 50 years.

With BENGglas, you make a difference – even in monumental heritage.

Extra subsidy for national monuments

With the Investment Subsidy for Sustainable Energy and Energy Saving (ISDE), you receive a nice contribution when making your home more sustainable with BENG glass:

- €25 per m² when you only replace the glass with BENG glass (Report code: KA18780)
- €111 per m² if you replace both the glass and the frames (Report code: other)
- €46 per m² for glass replacement with BENG glass in national monuments

And it gets even better: do you combine this with additional insulation measures, such as roof or floor insulation? Then the subsidy amount is even doubled! Not sure if your home is a national monument? Check it easily on RVO.nl.

Are you an entrepreneur and want to make your business premises more sustainable?
Through the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA), you benefit from a tax advantage of up to €300 per m². Note: the investment must be at least €2,500. Don't forget to apply for the EIA within three months after installation via the eLoket of RVO.nl.

Why should I choose BENGglas?

BENGglas is not ordinary glass – it is a revolutionary solution for sustainable and future-proof building. Compared to standard insulation glass, BENGglas offers unique advantages that directly improve both your home and the climate.

  • Superior insulation: with a U-value starting from 0.35 W/m²K, BENGglas is twice as effective as triple glazing (0.70) and even three times better than double glazing (1.10). This means significant energy savings and lower heating costs.
  • Long lifespan: while traditional glass lasts an average of 25 years, BENGglas lasts up to 50 years. Produce once, less CO₂, and half a century of benefits!
  • Sustainable and environmentally friendly: thanks to less material use (30% less glass than triple glazing), BENGglas saves thousands of tons of CO₂ annually. This way, you actively contribute to a cleaner planet.
  • Light and thin: at only 8.3 mm thick, BENGglas fits in almost any existing frame and allows for lighter hardware, making construction sustainable and efficient.
  • A true climate hero: if all of the Netherlands switches to BENGglas, we can save up to 4.1 megatons of CO₂ annually — that's equivalent to 170,000 car trips from Amsterdam to Paris! Moreover, the production of BENGglas alone results in 24,000 tons less CO₂ emissions per year.
  • A smart investment in the future: less energy consumption, less maintenance, and a longer lifespan make BENGglas a choice that benefits you for years – for yourself and for future generations.

In short: with BENGglas you choose maximum energy efficiency, sustainability, and a smart investment in the future. Make a difference, for your home and for our planet.

The enormous CO₂ benefit of a massive switch to BENGglas: this is what it really delivers!

If the whole of the Netherlands switches to BENGglas, we achieve a structural CO₂ saving of no less than 4.1 megatons per year — that is equivalent to 170,000 car trips from Amsterdam to Paris! In production alone, BENGglas saves more than 24,000 tons of CO₂ annually. For an average house, BENGglas means a saving of 1,800 kg CO₂ per year, which can amount to as much as 90,000 kg CO₂ per house over 50 years. This directly contributes to achieving our climate goals: it can realize more than 8% of the CO₂ reduction in the built environment by 2030 and helps the Netherlands become climate neutral by 2050. It is not just glass, it is a revolution in sustainable building.
