You come across BENGglas everywhere nowadays. In addition to radio commercials and at trade fairs, you also increasingly see vacuum glass appearing on the sites of local and regional glass and painting companies.
With 180 dealers in the Benelux, mainly focused on private individuals, and a number of larger players who apply vacuum glass on a project basis, the success predicted five years ago by Giga Glas! director John Creutzberg has come true. Son Youri is now the face of BENGglas; it's high time for an interview.
Visibility and Dealer Support
Your national recognition is enormous, is participating in trade fairs still worthwhile? Youri Creutzberg: ‘Certainly, you might say that after the third or fourth time in the Brabanthallen the novelty wears off and they know you, but there are always questions and we keep coming up with new developments and innovations. There is a lot of interest in our product and a great need for information about sustainability with vacuum glass. It remains important to promote our brand name BENGglas, but also the visibility for existing customers and dealer support are crucial during such events.’
Developments
Earlier this year, BENGglas announced the largest size of vacuum glass in the world. What other developments can we expect? ‘That's right, until last year the dimensions were limited to a maximum of 1,500 x 2,500 millimeters. This has now increased to 2,000 x 3,000 and soon we will be able to glaze with dimensions up to 4.2 meters in height. This new step is characteristic of the rapid developments taking place in the world of vacuum glass. We have been active for five years, have replaced the vacuum cap with an easy-to-conceal strip, and are now taking further steps in testing, sizes, types, and additional certifications.’
Ug-value vacuum glass
With a Ug-value of 0.4 W/m2K, we are already scoring extremely well, but we expect to come out this year with a triple silver coating that achieves 0.29 W/m2K at an LTA of 0.68. This is a development in collaboration with Vitro Architectural Glass, a major producer and distributor of LandVac in the US. Another development is that of BENGglas SUN; BIPV roof glazing composed of vacuum glass, PV, and a counterpane. A pilot is currently underway, and we expect to come out with the results this fall.’
