BENGglas has sustainably renovated the facade of a historic building in Arnhem using tempered vacuum glass. The executor, Achterberg Schilders, highlights a number of important aspects of vacuum glass. The executor mentions the good insulation value (U=0.4), the handling and the light weight of the glass. With a profile from 8.15 mm, vacuum glass is ideal for renovations without frame replacement. The residents not only experience improved insulation, but also increased living comfort by reducing drafts and outside noise. The BENGglas is tested here, in collaboration with the Vlakkelichtdome, by TÜV Rheinland according to CE and NL Building Decree. This concerns the determination of the insulation value (Ug), LTA and ZTA.

Within this fragment, various tests are exhibited: resistance class in case of manual attack (EN356 burglar-resistant glass), residual load capacity by means of impact load test (EN12600 security glazing) and the fall-through safety test.

The vacuum glass production line has a length of 400 meters and annually produces 120,000 square
meters of toughened vacuum insulating glass.

ISDE subsidy is available at BENGglas . This is 23 euros per m2 and can be requested with reporting code KA18780.

If you also replace the window frames, you can use reporting code KA19317. You are then eligible for a subsidy of 65.50 euros per m2.

The glass bead pendulum test is essential for fall safety at floor edge separations according to the Dutch Building Decree. The law prescribes that a floor partition is mandatory if there is a fall risk of more than 1 meter. Building Decree specifications and safety demonstrations refer to the Eurocode NEN-EN-1990. These include ultimate limit states (static calculation) and special loads (analytical & experimental). BENGglas passes the glass bead pendulum test, in which experimental loads are tested exclusively, and thus meets the safety standards for floor edge barriers.

Toughening glass has several advantages:

• The glass is up to five times stronger than normal single or double glazing of the same thickness;
• When the glass breaks, it shatters into small particles without sharp edges. This makes it injury-proof, prevents cuts and makes it official safety glass;
• Thermal breakage is completely excluded.

The "ball drop test" tests the mechanical strength of the glass.
